As the name implies, it is the photography of interior spaces with an emphasis on showcasing the interior design, whether that be the form and function of the space, and/or the way in which it is decorated or furnished.
Interior designers, architects, interior decorators and home stagers who wish to showcase their design flare to prospective clients. In addition, business owners in need of high end imagery of their premises for marketing material.
Photographing a well thought out and designed interior space is much more than just creating a Xerox copy of it. While providing an accurate visual record of the layout and colour scheme is important, it has to be done in such a way as to tell a story. What is the purpose of the space? How is the use of clever design making the most of the space? What materials were used? And most importantly, what does it feel like to be in the space. Interior spaces make us feel a certain way, that is to say their design has a big say in how we interpret the space emotionally. For example, is it open, light filled and expansive? Or intimate, cosy and secure? My job as a photographer is to help tell that story and my approach is similar to how I photograph architecture. In fact, to avoid repetition, I suggest you head over to my Architectural Photography page to read more about my approach, the areas I cover, testimonials from clients and other info.
