Echo House
Built on a spectacular but challenging west facing section dug out of a Waikanae hillside, Echo House by Three Line Studio is a certified Passive House. The long, sloping design echoes the distinctive and prominent shape of Kapiti Island in the distance, hence the name “Echo”, which also references the region’s whaling past and the island having more than a passing resemblance to a large whale lounging offshore.
Featured in the annual Green Issue of HOME magazine, the innovative design comprised of a “spine and ribs” builds on the whaling theme and won the 2021 Housing award at the NZIA Wellington awards.
